Moderation
1xiv is moderated by volunteers and administrators. Moderation exists to keep the archive on-topic and the discussion civil, not to judge scientific merit. There is no peer review here.
What moderators can do
- Remove a paper that violates the policies (spam, plagiarism, out of scope, unauthorised submission). The page then shows a removal notice. A moderator may return the author's yearly submission slot if the removal was not the author's fault.
- Send a submission back before it is announced if it is clearly unsuitable (an unreadable or wrong PDF, not research). It returns to the author as a draft with a note and an email, and their yearly slot is released, so nothing is lost; they fix it and submit again.
- Hide a comment that is abusive, off-topic, or exposes private information. A notice remains in its place.
- Deactivate an account (administrators) for repeated violations, including evading the one-paper-per-year rule with multiple accounts.
Transparency
Every moderation action, including who did it, when and why, is recorded in an audit log visible to moderators. We keep removed papers' records so decisions can be reviewed.
Reporting something
Use Report under any comment. For a problem with a paper, email jkudlerflam@gmail.com with the paper's identifier.
